Industry’s Most Accurate Paddle Wheel Flow Meter
When measuring liquid medial in an industrial process application accuracy plays a very important part. Many paddle wheel flow meters currently on the market are dated, the design is old and stale. The Truflo® paddle wheel flow meters have been engineered to provide industry with the longest lasting and most accurate flow meter currently available on the market
Paddle wheel flow meters, also known as turbine flow meters, are known for their high level of accuracy in measuring flow rate. The accuracy of a paddle wheel flow meter is affected by several factors, including:
- Sensor design: The design of the paddle wheel sensor plays a significant role in determining the accuracy of the flow meter. The sensor should be designed to minimize drag and minimize the effect of turbulence on the paddle wheel.
- K-factor: The K-factor is the relationship between the rotation of the paddle wheel and the flow rate of the liquid. The K-factor should be calibrated correctly to ensure accurate flow measurement.
- Viscosity: The viscosity of the liquid being measured can affect the accuracy of the flow meter. Paddle wheel flow meters are typically not recommended for use with liquids that have a viscosity of more than 800 cP.
- Temperature: The temperature of the liquid being measured can also affect the accuracy of the flow meter. Paddle wheel flow meters are typically not recommended for use with liquids that have temperatures that exceed 150°C.
- Flow profile: The flow profile of the liquid being measured can also affect the accuracy of the flow meter. Paddle wheel flow meters are typically not recommended for use with liquids that have turbulent flow patterns.
- Reinstallation: The flow meter should be reinstalled correctly to ensure accurate flow measurement.
- Calibration: Paddle wheel flow meters should be calibrated regularly to ensure accurate flow measurement.
- Installation: The flow meter should be installed correctly to ensure accurate flow measurement. In order to achieve the highest accuracy of the flow meter there should be 10X pipe diameter in front of the flow meter and 5X after.
In general, the accuracy of a paddle wheel flow meter is typically within ±2% of the actual flow rate. The Truflo® TK, TC and TI series has an accuracy of ±0.5%. The accuracy can be affected by the factors mentioned above, so it’s important to choose a flow meter that is suitable for the specific application and to regularly calibrate the flow meter to ensure accurate flow measurement.
