Its All About The Accuracy – Paddle Wheel Flow Meters
When measuring liquid media in an industrial process application, accuracy is critical. Many paddle wheel flow metres on the market today are out of date; the design is ancient and stale. The Truflo® paddle wheel flow metres have been designed to give industry with the most durable and accurate flow metre on the market.
Paddle wheel flow metres, also known as turbine flow metres, are well-known for their high level of flow rate accuracy. Several factors influence the accuracy of a paddle wheel flow metre, including:
Sensor design: The design of the paddle wheel sensor has a considerable impact on the flow meter’s accuracy. The sensor should be built to reduce drag and turbulence’s effect on the paddle wheel.
The K-factor is the relationship between the rotation of the paddle wheel and the liquid flow rate. To guarantee accurate flow measurement, the K-factor should be properly calibrated.
The viscosity of the liquid being measured can affect the flow meter’s accuracy. Paddle wheel flow metres are generally not advised for use with liquids with viscosities more than 800 cP.
Temperature: The temperature of the liquid being measured can also affect the flow meter’s accuracy. Paddle wheel flow metres are not normally advised for use with liquids with temperatures over 150°C.
Flow profile: The flow profile of the liquid being measured can also affect the flow meter’s accuracy. Paddle wheel flow metres are normally not recommended for use with turbulent-flowing liquids.
Reinstallation: To ensure accurate flow measurement, the flow metre should be reinstalled correctly.
Calibration: To achieve accurate flow measurement, paddle wheel flow metres should be calibrated on a regular basis.
Installation: To achieve accurate flow measurement, the flow metre should be installed correctly. To ensure the best flow metre accuracy, the pipe diameter should be 10X in front of the flow metre and 5X after.
A paddle wheel flow meter’s accuracy is typically within +/- 2% of the actual flow rate. The Truflo TK, TC, and TI series have a /-0.5% accuracy. Because the accuracy might be affected by the factors stated above, it is critical to select a flow metre that is appropriate for the specific application and to calibrate the flow metre on a regular basis to ensure accurate flow measurement.
