Leak Detection Sensors for Double Walled Tanks
There are several types of leak detection sensors that can be used for double wall tanks:
- Float switches: Float switches are simple sensors that use a float that rises and falls with the liquid level in the tank. The float is connected to a lever or other mechanism that converts the vertical motion of the float into a measurable signal. Float switches can be used to detect leaks by monitoring the liquid level in the tank and alerting operators if the level drops unexpectedly.
- Ultrasonic sensors: Ultrasonic sensors use ultrasonic waves to measure the distance to the surface of the liquid in the tank. The time it takes for the ultrasonic wave to travel to the surface and back is used to calculate the level of the liquid. Ultrasonic sensors can be used to detect leaks by monitoring the liquid level in the tank and alerting operators if the level drops unexpectedly.
- Capacitive sensors: Capacitive sensors use capacitance, or the ability to store electrical charge, to measure the level of the liquid in the tank. The sensor consists of two electrodes, and the capacitance between the electrodes changes as the level of the liquid changes. Capacitive sensors can be used to detect leaks by monitoring the liquid level in the tank and alerting operators if the level drops unexpectedly.
- Radar sensors: Radar sensors use radar to measure the distance to the surface of the liquid in the tank. The time it takes for the radar wave to travel to the surface and back is used to calculate the level of the liquid. Radar sensors can be used to detect leaks by monitoring the liquid level in the tank and alerting operators if the level drops unexpectedly.
- Optical sensors: Optical sensors use a light source and a detector to measure the level of the liquid in the tank. The light source projects a beam of light onto the surface of the liquid, and the detector measures the intensity of the light that is reflected back. Optical sensors can be used to detect leaks by monitoring the liquid level in the tank and alerting operators if the level drops unexpectedly.
When selecting a leak detection sensor for a double wall tank, it’s important to consider the specific characteristics of the liquid being stored, the process conditions in which the sensor will be used, and the requirements of the application.
